Freestanding Sauna Plans

This is a comprehensive manual intended to help you build your own sauna (a traditional wood-fired Finnish-style sauna). This 40+ page (PDF) download includes extensive information and in-depth notes from many sauna builds. There is a materials list, including weights of common materials, photos, and over a dozen pages of detailed architectural-styled drawings. These notes, photos and drawings have been developed by sauna builder, Rob Licht, with over 35 years experience building saunas and working in the trades. The plans adhere to the best practices in quality home construction and science-based sauna building.

These plans, however, do not give basic instruction on using hand or power tools, basic carpentry, sound building practices, or basic safety procedures. If you lack these skills it is advised that you take a hands-on carpentry class. Some basic metalworking skills will be required for the project. There may be welding modifications. If in doubt about any of these details, consult a skilled professional.

Purchase of these plans constitutes a license for a one-time build of a sauna using these plans for personal use. Prints may be made only for use by the builder/contractor. These plans are for non-commercial use only. Building more than one sauna requires purchase of a separate license for each sauna. Note that these plans can be adapted to use with an electric sauna heater but we suggest consulting with us first.
